A message from the organisers of the Hetton Children’s Triathlon 23rd June 2013:
It is with regret that due to low entry levels, we have cancelled this event. This was intended as an IRC selection race. For the new selection process, please read the information below:
Dear All,
EVENT – ETON DORNEY LAKE SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST 2013
This year’s event will see an increase in the number of Tri Star 2 athletes racing per region with three boys and three girls now being able to compete. The same number of athletes will compete in the Tri Star 3 category, creating a team of 12 athletes in total.
The 2013 event will NOT include a youth category following recommendations in the 2011 British Triathlon Competition Review; however, Eton Dorney will also host an elite youth and junior race, which will be included in the 2013 British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series.
The original plan for the selection of the North East Team was to hold a duathlon & 2 triathlons at Hetton Lyons Country Park. Unfortunately due to a low entry level the duathlon was cancelled. The first triathlon on 25th May again had low entry numbers but we did go ahead with the event but the cold weather conspired against this event and we were obliged to turn this into a duathlon. The low entry levels for the event scheduled for 23rd June has again has put us into a situation where we must cancel the event. We are aware of the conflict with other competitions.
To be fair to everyone, we have devised a selection strategy, which should give anyone with hopes of selection an opportunity to let the coaches and selection committee see what they can offer to the team.
With this in mind, a session will be held every Wednesday afternoon in the school holidays at Hetton Lyons Country Park commencing on Wednesday 24th July at 3.00pm. The sessions will consist of open water swimming, wetsuit removal, T1 practice, group cycling, T2 practice and of course running. Anyone who would like to qualify should aim to attend at least 2 of the first 3 sessions. A team will be selected following those 3 sessions. The following 3 Wednesdays will be devoted to race practice and team building. In extenuating circumstances such as a pre-booked family holiday at any time in the 6 weeks, please contact us to discuss this.
Please contact Sue Gardener on tri.sue@virgin.net to book your place at sessions. We will require confirmed numbers of attendees to ensure that we have adequate levels coaches & assistants in attendance.
Regards,
Colin Gardener – Head Coach North East Region Academy
Tim Pigott – IRC Team Manager
