Triathlon England have chosen CTC, the national cycling charity, to design a training course for volunteer ride leaders. The one day course is aimed at competent club cyclists who are not coaches to give them all the tools they need to lead a club ride.
The training has been designed to free up club coaches from leading group rides and also give other members the opportunity to be involved without the pressure of being a coach.
The course is a mixture of classroom learning & practical “on road” learning with chance to practice leading & being lead in various scenarios in small groups. Topics covered will include:-
- Risk Management
- Group Management
- Leading Techniques
- Emergency Management
Candidates will need a fully working bicycle, helmet & suitable clothing.
- You must hold a current Home Nation Membership
- You must be a minimum 18 years of age
There are currently 12 places available, but if the course proves popular we can increase this to 18.

Saturday 19th July sees the very first edition of The Newcastle Triathlon, easily the biggest triathlon the region has ever hosted with well over 1,100 athletes from all over the country (and Europe) already entered. As with all events, the organisors need a strong and capable team of volunteers to make things run smoothly and give the athletes a great experience.
There is short document on the event website which can be viewed here which explains what the event is, what roles are available and the timings for availability; so if you can only make a few hours, that’s great, there’s a role for you (but if you can make it all day, even better!) It also explains the support and goodies you’ll receive as a thank you.
You will be well looked after be sure of that. The event team have organised free hot food and drinks with snacks and water, plus a fab event shirt, a bespoke design using the latest fabrics. There’s also the offer of a free race at the Northumberland Triathlon 2014 if you’re an athlete; just let us know if you wish to take this up and we’ll be in touch.
If you’re able to help, please contact info@TheNewcastleTriathlon.co.uk – please include your name and contact number, and confirm which time(s) you’re available and the roles you’re interested in.
Lets make history in the Northeast by hosting the very first triathlon in the heart of Newcastle City Centre, it’s going to be awesome!
