A sad message from Michelle Scott

It is with great sadness but on behalf of Cleveland Tri Club I would like to inform you that Stewart Swinson sadly died on Tuesday 20th March aged 47.  His body was found in Yarm early Tuesday morning.

On behalf of the Northeast Triathlon Community I would like to send our condolences.  Our thoughts and sympathies are with Stewart’s family, friends and team mates at this difficult moment in time.

Stewart was a valued member of Cleveland Triathlon Club and his work in the junior section was greatly appreciated.  I had the pleasure of coaching alongside Stewart at many Stockton Try a Tri days and his enthusiasm for the sport was amazing.

RIP Stewart.

Alnwick Kids Triathlon will be running a series of Try a Tri sessions for children in the lead up to the Triathlon on Sunday 8th July.

We will be running a regular session on the first Sunday of each month leading up to the Alnwick Kids Triathlon

The session will start at 4:30 and finish at 5:30pm.

The dates for the sessions will be:

  • Sunday 1st April
  • Sunday 6th May
  • Sunday 3rd June
  • Sunday 1st July

These sessions will be based around bike skills: control, conering & braking, run technique and transition practice.  We will meet at the entrance to Willowburn Leisure Centre, Alnwick and then be using the car park around Sainsburys, Argos and Homebase for these activities.

All participants will need to bring their own suitable clothing, bike with helmet and trainers (without all of these they won’t be able to participate).

The sessions are open for all children under the age of 15.  Children under 8 years old (on the day of the session) MUST have a parent or adult guardian present during the session – this parent or adult guardian will be responsible for the child throughout the session.  It would be prefered that ALL parents remain throughout the session.

The session will cost £1 per child – which will go towards the Alnwick Kids Triathlon.

The sessions will be lead by British Triathlon Level 3 Coach, Paul Jones.

British Triathlon North East Region

Junior performance Academy 2012

After the hard work of the coaches, athletes, parents and volunteers during 2011 some fantastic progress has been made in identifying and developing junior talent in our region leading to us becoming Inter Regional Champions in 2011!

In order to progress during 2012 we aim to maximise the opportunity for local youngsters to become involved in the performance programme. Therefore we will be working with individuals, clubs, schools and parents to monitor progress throughout the year.

We will continue to use the benchmark criteria as set down by Triathlon England and will select the performance squad from the athletes who are consistently performing at the highest level and show the ability & desire to succeed in the sport of Triathlon.

The squad will meet regularly for group training sessions throughout the year including specific race preparation sessions, benchmarking and testing, strength & conditioning sessions, race season and annual training plans.

The selection criteria for measuring performance can be seen HERE

If you would like to be considered for the squad or would like to nominate an athlete please forward your name, contact details, club/ school contact and times for your relevant distances in the attached form to Regional Performance co-ordinator Alan Copland at or Academy head coach Colin Gardner at

We would like to welcome all athletes to Ripon for an accurately measured Olympic Distance Tri just two weeks before The Olympic Games Open. We are also happy to hold club championships within our event with bespoke results and the option of a presentation post race.
